Benjamin Mendy’s injury is terrible news for Man City but fantastic news for anyone who follows the Frenchman on social media, given he’ll have a bit more spare time on his hands.
However Pep Guardiola is reportedly wasting little time in identifying players to fill in for Mendy while he recovers.
One player on that list is Napoli’s Faouzi Ghoulam, according to French publication Le Buteur.
Like Mendy, Ghoulam was born in France, playing twice for the French Under-21s.
However he has since committed his international future to Algeria and has won 35 caps for The Desert Warriors.
The 26-year-old started his career at Saint-Etienne before moving to Napoli in 2014.
Ghoulam’s game has come on leaps and bounds under manager Maurizio Sarri, who has transformed Napoli into one of Europe’s most exciting sides.
In seven Serie A games this season Ghoulam has two goals and three assists, so he’s a perfect fit for Guardiola.
As fate would have it Guardiola will get a chance to see Ghoulam in the flesh when Napoli take on City in the Champions League.
City sit top of Group F, having won both games, while Napoli are third after losing to Shakhtar Dontesk.
Guardiola will be hoping that Kevin De Bruyne can have a word in Ghoulam’s ear, as he did with Mendy.
