An astonishing FIVE players were sent off as Fenerbahce defeated bitter Istanbul rivals Besiktas in a fiery Saturday evening clash.
Vincent Janssen – on loan from Spurs – scored a late penalty for Fenerbahce as the game descended into chaos in the final five minutes.
Giuliano scored the opener for the hosts with Janssen making it 2-0 on the the 86th minute, with ex-Liverpool man Ryan Babel (remember him?) pulling one back moments later.
But the main talking point of the game was undoubtedly how few players were left on the pitch at full time.
Besiktas’ Ricardo Quaresma was the first to go after receiving a second yellow card on the 43rd minute, before Luis Neto saw a straight red for chopping down a player through on goal on the stroke of half-time.
And with five minutes remaining of the second-half, Besiktas saw Atiba Hutchinson sent off for two bookings.
Ismail Koybasi of Fenerbahce was then shown a red for a deadly tackle, while Oguzhan Ozyakup received a second yellow deep into injury time, leaving the visitors with just eight players.
Tempers even flared at home, with one fan so incensed by Besiktas’ late goal that he wrecked his flat screen TV.
The result means Fenerbahce have closed the gap on Besiktas to just two points as they moved up to third in the Turkish Super Lig.
Turkish football, gotta love it.
