Footballers, for better or worse, set fashion trends.
Whenever David Beckham changed his hairstyle millions of children around the world copied him, no matter how ridiculous they might have looked.
France’s Kylian Mbappe was no different as a youngster.
There was one slight issue though.
His idol wasn’t the luscious locks of Becks, it was the follicly challenged Zinedine Zidane.
Not that it ever stopped Mbappe.
The PSG striker told RMC SPORT: “At that time, I wasn’t switched on, I was a little bit in my own world, which is why I wanted to have the same haircut as him.
“Because when you love a player, you want to do everything like him. If he eats spinach, a kid is going to eat spinach even if he doesn’t like them.
“I wanted to do everything like him, and as I didn’t know what baldness was, I asked the hairdresser to cut a round bit out of my hair, he thought I was mad.”
It could have been worse.
Mbappe’s idol could have been Taribo West, forcing him into new colour and twists every week.
Now that would have been difficult to keep up with.
