Well, that didn’t last long did it?
Ousmane Dembele – making his first La Liga start for Barcelona today – limped off after only 23 minutes into the first-half with a hamstring injury, as the Catalans narrowly beat Getafe 2-1.
A club statement has read: “Ousmane Dembele has a hamstring injury in his left leg, more tests are needed to find out the extent of the injury.”
This could be a major blow for the Frenchman, who only made his debut for the club as a substitute in last weekend’s 5-0 win against cross-city rivals Espanyol, providing the assist for Luis Suarez’s late goal.
The former Borussia Dortmund forward cost the club an initial £97 million over the summer, which could rise to as much as £127m with add-ons.
The 20-year-old made his full debut in the midweek Champions League victory over Juventus and kept his place along side Suarez and Lionel Messi for the Getafe game.
In the end, it turned out to be a better day for another one of Barca’s expensive summer acquisitions, with former Spurs flop Paulinho snatching a late winner to send them seven points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga table.
We still can’t quite believe that happened, to be honest.
