Hands up who thought Carlos Tevez’s move to the Chinese Super League would go well?
As we thought, not too many hands in the sky.
Now Tevez’s Chinese Super League career has hit a predictable speed bump, with the 33-year-old finding himself dropped at Shanghai Shenhua.
It isn’t just his poor goal return of two strikes in 15 games that has seen the Argentine sidelined.
It’s his expanding waistline.
Along with former Inter Milan midfielder Freddy Guarin, Tevez has been dropped as he is currently ‘overweight’.
Shanghai coach Wu Jingui said: “He will be informed of my tactical plans but I won’t pick him right now. He’s not ready physically. He’s not fit to play.
“He is overweight, along with Guarin. I have to take responsibility for the team and the players as well.
“If you are unable to do your utmost to play, there’s no point in picking you.
“I have coached lots of big stars, and my players are never picked on reputation.”
Tevez has been angling for a return to his beloved Boca Juniors but his £650,000-a-week wages will make any move difficult.
We feel a bit sorry for Carlos.
It can’t be easy to earn £650,000-a-week in a land of great food and not put on a bit of timber.
