Footballers get a lot of grief – and rightly so in some cases.
But Sami Khedira is clearly one of the good guys.
Before Germany’s thumping 6-0 World Cup qualifying win over Norway that all-but clinched their place in Russia next summer, the Juventus midfielder made an incredible gesture to the local disadvantaged children in Stuttgart.
Returning to the city where he learnt his trade, Khedira bought 1200 tickets for disabled, ill or socially vulnerable children and distributed them around 15 charities.
“We wanted to do something good for the region two years after the charity game, and the national team match on Monday in Stuttgart offers the ideal setting,” he told the German FA.
“With the organisational support of my family, we are enabling young people to attend the game who would not be able to otherwise.”
Khedira, a World Cup winner with Germany in 2014, then hung around at the end of the drubbing to sign autographs and take pictures with the children.
Germany were rampant against a lacklustre Norwegian side, with Mesut Ozil opening the scoring and Julian Draxler doubling the lead shortly after.
RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner then grabbed a brace before half time, whilst Leon Goretzka and Mario Gomez made it six before the final whistle.
