Ross Barkley had a tough time of it on transfer deadline day.
He had reportedly travelled all the way up to London to have a medical with Chelsea, only to bail when he heard of Spurs’ interest.
That sparked memes like this…
But now the man himself has spoken about what went down on Jim White’s favourite day of the year.
Barkley took to Twitter to clear up any confusion about his situation.
He said: “Contrary to a number of reports in the press, I did not undertake a medical with any club at any point.
“I simply decided that due to my injury, it would be best to make a decision on my future and assess all my options in January when fully fit.
“Thanks for all of the support.”
So that’s that.
While Barkley put to bed any rumours about a medical at Chelsea, he did leave the door open for a January exit.
The 23-year-old, who is struggling from hamstring injuries at the moment, is out contract in the summer.
From January he’ll be able to talk to clubs about a free transfer away from Everton.
But, regardless of his future, it’s refreshing to see a footballer talking out on social media to clear up any rumours.
