It happened. It actually happened.
First the rumours cropped up on social media. Then the ITK sources confirmed it. Then the journalists waded in.
Next thing you know Cristiano Ronaldo himself is talking about it.
Renato Sanches is a Swansea player
for one season and one season only.
As if we weren’t already having enough fun, Swansea then announced his squad number.
Number 85. Sensational. Flair. Maverick. Anhygoel. There aren’t enough words in the Welsh language to describe it.
It was all too good to be true. Then the Premier League, sorry, the busy Premier League stepped in.
They informed Swansea that Premier League rules dictate ‘squad numbers must be consecutive and close to the current highest number’ so Sanches would have to choose another.
Obviously Swansea don’t currently have 84 players in their squad, so Sanches has been forced to settle for the no.35 he wore at Bayern Munich.
Still, Swansea have confirmed they’re still going ahead with the move, so all’s well that ends well.
What next, banning beautiful pitch designs?
