BAYERN MUNICH youngster Renato Sanches is on the verge of a sensational move to Liverpool, according to reports in Italy.
The Portuguese midfielder, 20, endured a torrid debut season in the Bundesliga, but Jurgen Klopp is keen to build on his potential.
Sky Italia have claimed that Liverpool – fresh from their 4-0 hammering of Arsenal on Sunday – are deep in talks with Bundesliga giants Bayern over a move for Sanches.
The youngster’s agent, Jorge Mendes, was in Monaco at the weekend watching another of his clients, Kylian Mbappe.
But on his return from the French Riviera he is set to conclude talks for Sanches – also a one-time target of Chelsea and AC Milan this summer – one way or the other.
The Reds would to need to splash in excess of £30million for the star midfielder – a bargain compared to some of this summer’s astonishing transfer fees.
Sanches was left out of Munich’s squad for their clash with Werder Bremen this weekend as he considers his future at the club.
The central midfielder only joined the German outfit last summer from Benfica, having starred in Portugal’s Euro 2016-winning campaign.
But in his debut season in Germany, Sanches appeared just 17 appearances in all competitions and failed to nail down a regular place in midfield.
Liverpool missed out on top target Naby Keita this summer and see Sanches as an ideal alternative.
Meanwhile, Klopp has also reportedly opened discussions to bring Monaco ace and Arsenal target Thomas Lemar to Anfield.
The French winger is priced at around £55m, but would be a good investment as the club brace themselves to lose Philippe Coutinho, either now or next summer.
