We live in world where Paulinho is about to become a Barcelona player.
Yes, that Paulinho, the man who many Tottenham fans regard as the worst they’ve ever seen at their club.
The Brazilian was signed off the back of the Gareth Bale sale to Real Madrid and proved to be arguably the worst of the seven acquisitions Spurs brought in that summer.
And one of those was Roberto Soldado.
But since moving to Guangzhou Evergrande in 2016 he’s found form again and even forced his way back into the Brazilian national squad.
Paulinho’s rollercoaster career is now set to reach it’s highest peak yet though after Barcelona agreed a £35m deal to sign him from the Chinese club yesterday.
The Catalans are armed with a serious war chest after Neymar’s £196m move to PSG, with Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele also seemingly close to joining.
Paulinho, however, may have some explaining to do upon his arrival after a busy internet user unearthed an old tweet from his official account insulting Barcelona and praising Real Madrid.
Practically blasphemy in Catalonia, then.
The tweet – pretty bluntly – translates directly as ‘Come on Madrid today. Barcelona whores. Catalonia whores’.
Not exactly beating around the bush there.
