Was Michy Batshuayi laughing at Alvaro Morata’s missed penalty?

The two Chelsea forwards are both competing to be Antonio Conte's first-choice goalscorer this season

Something funny, Michy?

For most Chelsea fans and players, a loss to London rivals is enough to put them in a bad mood for at least a couple of days.

So why was Michy Batshuayi caught smiling in the wake of team-mate Alvaro Morata’s penalty miss?

Check out the footage for yourself and see if you can figure out what was going on…

Now there’s no way to conclude for certain that Batshuayi was laughing at Morata but many fans were quick to theorise.

The pair are in competition to be Antonio Conte’s first-choice centre forward this season.

The Belgian international has been in good form in pre-season after a prolific end to the 2016/17 campaign which featured him scoring the title-clenching goal.

Roman Abramovich has just forked out Β£58million on Morata but his place in the starting XI is not a formality.

It’s an easy joke to suggest Batshuayi enjoyed Morata’s unsuccessful spot-kick because that would improve his hopes of starting at home to Burnley on Saturday but that’s an unlikely scenario.

Both are professionals and would have been frustrated at missing out on adding a trophy to their cabinets – even if it was just the Community Shield.

Batshuayi has endeared himself to fans on social media with some popular tweets…

Perhaps he was simply caught laughing at something else at an inappropriate time.

Whatever the case, he quickly straighten his face when he realised he was on camera.

A friendly rivalry brewing? Or just a trick of the camera?
