Neymar explains THAT Gerard Pique tweet in his first Paris Saint-Germain press conference

Neymar's world record-breaking transfer to Paris has been the transfer saga of the summer

It’s safe to say that Neymar’s world record-breaking transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain has been football’s ultimate transfer saga.

The Parisians finally secured their man on Thursday evening, parting with a whopping £198million for the Brazilian.

This happened folks, have you heard?

This happened folks, have you heard?

But it was only a couple of weeks ago that we were all very confidently shaking our smug little heads in defiance.

There’s simply no way he’s leaving Barcelona for PSG.

Why were we so sure?

Because Gerard Pique said so, of course.

Shakira’s husband turned the Neymar saga on it’s head two weeks ago when he posted a selfie of himself and the Brazilian on social media, captioning the image with ‘he stays’.

And that was that, surely?

Apparently not.

Speaking during his PSG unveiling on Friday, Neymar was questioned by the press on the context of Pique’s Instagram snapshot.

And the 25-year-old explained all, saying: “me and Gerard Pique were having lunch together and he posted a picture.

“We were having fun, I told him not to do it because I did not make my decision.

“I was thinking about so much and he wanted to make a joke.

“He is one of my close friends, I wish him the best.”

Oh, so it turns out Pique is that guy who posts stuff on social media without thinking of the consequences.

We’ve all got a friend like that, right?
