Chelsea have earmarked Danny Drinkwater as a potential Nemanja Matic replacement, according to reports.
Serbia international Matic, 28, yesterday completed his £40million move to Manchester United on a three-year deal.
Blues boss Antonio Conte has already signed Monaco ace Tiemoue Bakayoko to strengthen his midfield, but wants more reinforcements for a season in the Champions League.
Leicester’s Drinkwater, 27, is being considered, according to Sky Sports, as is Bayern Munich starlet Renato Sanches, who Conte has already enquired about.
Drinkwater’s deal at the King Power does not run out until 2021, having signed a long-term contract in August.
The 2015-16 Premier League-winner would join up with old team-mate N’Golo Kante at Chelsea should he move to Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, Conte warned £65m signing Alvaro Morata to toughen up if he is to be a success in his first Premier League season.
He said: “Alvaro needs to improve. He needs to improve his physical condition and understand our idea of football.
“For sure he has a great will to train, to try to improve quickly.
“There are only six days before we play our first official game and then we start out league campaign.
“But I am pleased with his commitment, and his will and efforts to learn our idea of football very quickly.”
