Erik Lamela? We haven’t heard that name in a long time.
Life hasn’t gone according to plan for the Argentine midfielder in the last year.
The 25-year-old scored just the one goal last season before knackering his hip in November, never to be seen again.
After an unconvincing start to his Spurs career, Lamela showed fans why Daniel Levy spent £25million of the Gareth Bale money on him with some sparkling performances two seasons ago, particularly in Europe.
But his injury triggered a year of hurt for the ex-Roma player.
His brother was seriously hurt in a car crash and Lamela struggled to get over the death of his dog – he even moved back to Rome to alleviate his mourning.
Now it seems his nightmare is set to be ended with a fresh start at Inter Milan.
Football Italia suggest the Italian club are prepared to offer €15million for the Argentina international.
The only stumbling block in the deal is Spurs’ persistence to hold out for €18million.
Daniel Levy is always a difficult negotiator…
Spurs are extremely concerned about Lamela’s situation, believing the injury to be even more significant than first feared.
He has not travelled with the squad to America for pre-season and is targeting a return in September.
But who for?
