This would undoubtedly be one of the most groundbreaking transfers in Premier League history.
Think Eric Cantona to Manchester United, Robin van Persie leaving Arsenal for the same destination and Ashley Cole’s acrimonious transfer across London.
And then multiply them by a thousand.
That’s because Sergio Aguero – one of Premier League history’s most clinical marksmen – is being seriously linked with a move to Chelsea.
That’s according to Sky Sports, who believe the Blues hold a ‘serious and strong’ interest in the prolific Argentine striker.
Aguero’s future has been up for debate at Manchester City ever since the arrival of Brazilian sensation Gabriel Jesus in January.
Jesus’ has adapted to life in England brilliantly, scoring seven times and adding another four assists in just eight starts in the Premier League.
Aguero, despite still scoring regularly, was subsequently benched on a number occasions to make room for the new kid on the block.
The 29-year-old joined City in 2011 and became an instant legend after scoring the last gasp, title-winning goal against QPR on the final day in his first season.
How did Aguero get on last season on Dream Team?
- Had his best ever scoring season for Manchester City (30 goals in all competitions)
- WhoScored rating of 7.33 – better than David Silva (7.28) and Mesut Ozil (7.30)
- 307 Dream Team points – only bettered by Alexis Sanchez (348)

Since then he’s scored an incredible 122 goals in 181 Premier League games and become City’s top scorer in the competition’s history.
A move to Chelsea, then, really would put the cat amongst the pigeons ahead of the new season – which starts in just over three weeks.
The Blues are still reeling after Manchester United pipped them to the signing of Romelu Lukaku and have been forced to turn to alternatives.
They include Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alvaro Morata and Andrea Belotti – but Aguero now appears to have jumped to the top of their wishlist.
Diego Costa seems almost certain to leave the club this summer, with Atletico Madrid the most likely destination despite their ongoing transfer ban.
