Arsenal very close to announcing Alexandre Lacazette which will trigger the exit of Olivier Giroud to London rivals

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is closing in on £50million Lyon forward

Right now Arsenal fans are furiously refreshing David ‘Ornacle’ Ornstein’s Twitter profile waiting for confirmation that the Gunners have signed Alexandre Lacazette.

Arsene Wenger is closing in on a £50million deal for the Lyon forward — putting West Ham in pole position to nab Olivier Giroud.

Let’s just ignore the fact that Giroud is ahead of Lacazette in France’s pecking order for a second

Funnily enough, Arsenal’s rivals Chelsea have inadvertently assisted the Gunners with their imminent marquee signing.

The Blues have agreed to sell 21-year-old forward Bertrand Traore to Lyon for £16.5m, triggering Lacazette’s departure.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed: “We’re fine-tuning the talks with the player and I hope to be able to conclude the deal in the next few days.”

And with Lyon also after Man City defender Eliaquim Mangala for £20m (they obviously haven’t watched him play for a couple of years) Aulas is banking on Lacazette’s exit to finance the deals.

Arsenal are ready to spend a club-record £50m on 26-year-old Lacazette, who has bagged 100 goals in 203 Ligue 1 games.

It’s believed he’s got over the fact Arsenal won’t play Champions League football next season with move to the Emirates to play under Wenger now an appealing option.

Lacazette’s proposed transfer to Atletico Madrid collapsed when the Spanish club’s transfer ban was upheld by FIFA.

Soon to be a Hammer?

All this could mean the end for Giroud’s Arsenal career.

The 30-year-old wants regular first-team football and is determined to stay in London if he does leave the Gunners.

Those two factors put West Ham in pole position to bag the  target man for approximately £20million.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic is desperate for more firepower after Andre Ayew, Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho all suffered injury-wrecked campaigns.
