Everton are about to make an uncapped player the third most expensive goalkeeper in history

Reports emerging Everton are in advanced talks to sign England under-21 stopper after initial bid was rejected last month

England have strength in depth when it comes to the No1 position.

Jack Butland, Fraser Forster and Tom Heaton are all threats to Joe Hart’s throne as the Three Lions’ first choice keeper.

So when we tell you that Everton are about to make an English stopper the third most expensive keeper in history, you’d probably start debating between those four, wouldn’t you?

In fact, the Toffees are closing in on signing England’s fourth choice keeper, Jordan Pickford.

The Daily Telegragh are reporting that Ronald Koeman has accelerated his pursuit of the Sunderland keeper over the the last few days and are on the brink of making Pickford the most expensive British keeper of all time.

The 23-year-old was one of few Black Cats players who enhanced their reputation during a miserable season and an England debut awaits having been called up to the squad for the recent World Cup qualifier against Slovenia.

Sunderland rejected a bid from Everton last month, but the two clubs are closed to agreeing a deal for the 23-year-old who could complete the move after the  European Under-21 Championships.

Pickford has been on Sunderland’s books since he was eight-years-old and the club have held firm over their valuation.

He was one of six players nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year last season.

Ronald Koeman has been on the hunt for a new keeper and is closing in on Jordan Pickford

Pickford’s imminent arrival spells trouble for Joel Robles and Maarten Stekelenburg with the former latter likely to depart in seach of first-team football.

Everton’s summer shopping list also contains Ajax skipper Davy Klaasen, Malaga striker Sandro Ramirez and Swansea playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson.

If uncapped, recently relegated goalkeepers now cost £30m then you’d fancy the all-time transfer record to be broken once again in the coming months.
