Manchester United are in advanced negotiations to sign Monaco midfielder star Bernardo Silva, according to reports in France.
The 22-year-old Portugal playmaker has become one of the hottest properties on the continent, after starring in Monaco’s run to the Champions league semi-finals this season.
Silva was among the stand-out performers as Monaco beat Manchester City in the Champions League last 16.
The £70m-rated attacking midfielder scored 10 goals in 54 matches as Monaco won the Ligue 1 title for the first time in 17 years.
Chelsea are also said to be interested in the Portuguese, although Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has said he is not for sale.
However, French TV channel Cannal Plus says United are in pole position to sign Silva after completing preliminary discussions.
United boss Mourinho is seeking to strengthen his squad ahead of next season, with Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic also among the targets.
Victory against Ajax in the Europa League final on Wednesday would earn United Champions League football next term.
That could prove crucial in attracting the likes of Silva, Matic and Antoine Griezmann.
