Friday Night Football has been more than a bit hit and miss this season.
Sky Sports have televised just a handful of matches after reintroducing the service at the start of the season, with television audiences failing to buy into it as much as they’d hoped.
But last Friday’s match between West Ham and Tottenham, where the Hammers effectively ended their London rivals’ title challenge, certainly got people talking.
Not only was it a game carrying huge ramifications on the Premier League season, Rachel Riley’s comments on Spurs caused more than a stir after referring to Mauricio Pochettino’s side as ‘bottle jobs.’
Riley, who has been a regular fixture on Friday Night Football, received a huge backlash on social media for the remark, who felt it was hugely taken out of context given the way Spurs have made a title race rather than blown one.
She later denied she made the comments but has not been able to avoid abuse.
So when the female presenter didn’t feature on the Friday Night Football panel ahead of Chelsea’s trip to West Brom questions were raised.
Instead, Jeff Stelling was joined by Jamie Redknapp, Thierry Henry and Frank Lampard in a return to a more formal setup compared to the laid back format we’ve seen in previous weeks.
