At the bottom of the table, it was drama until the death as well as Blackburn Rovers – starting the day in 22nd – Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City battling to avoid relegation.
Rovers needed a win – and held up their end of the deal, beating Brentford 3-1 in an impressive victory.
However, they needed one of Forest of the Blues to drop points – with the Nottingham club storming to a 3-0 win, with Britt Assombalonga scoring twice.
At Ashton Gate, Birmingham took an early lead thanks to Che Adams and were forced to cling on to their Championship status until the 96th-minute… which they did.
The result meant Blackburn – despite their big win – are relegated to League One.
