Rachel Riley was scathing in her assessment of Tottenham on Friday night, branding them a ‘proper bottle job’
Spurs look like they’ve crashed out of the Premier League title race at the final hurdle for the second year straight following a 1-0 defeat to West Ham at the Olympic Stadium.
It means that Chelsea can open up a seven point gap if they beat Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
And the Blues can seal title victory before Spurs even kick a football again with victory against West Brom in a week’s time.
The White Hart Lane faithful are sure to be hurting after seeing their men also collapse in last season’s battle with Leicester.
And Countdown brainbox Riley, who is also a Man United fan, did not hold back when summing up Spurs’ performance.
Speaking alongside host Jeff Stelling and guests Thierry Henry, Jamie Redknapp and Alan Pardew, Riley said: “It’s déjà vu for Spurs, isn’t it? Proper bottle job.”
Whether Tottenham still have a crack at the title will depend after Monday night’s result.
But another failure is sure to strengthen Mauricio Pochettino’s resolve further, with the Argentine knowing he possesses a young team capable of challenging consistently for the next decade.
Riley’s damning remarks, however, really were divisive on social media:
Riley clarified her remarks and hit out at the ‘personal abuse’ she received following the comments.
