Jose Mourinho challenges Manchester United players to create history by clearing space on the walls at Carrington training complex

Wall that leads to club canteen has been used to celebrate players like George Best, Bobby Charlton, Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes and Cristiano Ronaldo now cleared - so United's players can create history of their own

JOSE MOURINHO has demanded a space be cleared on the Manchester United wall of fame at the club’s training complex in Carrington.

The United boss wants the current generation of players to create their OWN history, clearing a blank space on the wall that leads to the canteen.

Currently, former United greats like Sir Matt Busby, George Best, Sir Bobby Charlton, Peter Schmeichel, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes and Cristiano Ronaldo adorn the walls.

According to the Mail, Mourinho spotted that some of the images on the wall included snaps of some of the current squad like Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick.

But Mourinho wanted them moved, including the image of the FA Cup win last May under Louis van Gaal and his first trophy, the Community Shield and the League Cup, that United won in March.

Despite winning the Champions League three times, United have never won Europe’s second-most prestigious competition, formerly known as the Uefa Cup.

A source said: "Jose wants his players to feel like they are part of the fabric of the club. He felt that it was wrong that the recent successes have not been marked and wanted to change that.

"He insisted that he did not appear on any of the pictures, but he asked for group shots from the FA Cup win last year and the League Cup and Community Shield
