FIFA 19: Is it 2015? Beta footage shows Goalkeepers seem to be getting worse not better

Fans of FIFA 15 might be in for a treat

There is civil unrest in the FIFA community and fans aren’t happy with some early footage.

Gameplay from the FIFA 19 Beta has been doing the rounds online.

And although the game itself looks brilliant, some FIFA fans have had a lot to say about the goalkeeper mechanics.

Reddit user Deadlinee commented saying “With FIFA 19 we’ve introduced a new stat – “awareness”. Most goalkeepers will have 0 awareness so you would want one with a higher awareness stat.”

Another Reddit user posted a clip where similarly the goalkeeper seemed to be lacking in the jumping department.

The keeper supposedly ran for the ball on his own in this clip, allowing the opposing side to net a goal.

Players have been reminiscing about the supposed changes FIFA 15 was going to bring to goalies.

Back in 2014 EA said:

“Goalkeepers have been completely rewritten for FIFA 15 with over 50 new save animations, improved AI and a new, realistic player model. Our Next Gen goalkeepers are more responsive and fluid when they move and look and think like real-life keepers.”

Turns out there wasn’t much of a change, the music was catchy though even if the goalies turned out to not be.

In other news…

FIFA 19 Survival Mode footage has appeared online.

A video, posted by YouTuber Bateson87, shows the new mode in action – and it looks superb.

When you score a goal, one of your players leaves the pitch. The first to lose five players wins – it’s as simple as that.

But here’s where it gets interesting.

According to Eurogamer, EA Sports confirmed you can choose from a number of pre-set match types.

These include no rules (turns the ref off so offsides and fouls are fair game), and headers and volleys.

When asked about whether Survival Mode was influenced by Fortnite and other battle royale games, EA Sports creative director Matt Prior told Eurogamer: “That battle royale thing kicked off long after we came up with this idea, but it’s funny people are associating it [survival mode] with battle royale.”

“I’m sure people won’t believe me when I say this, but it genuinely had nothing to do with that! But it is funny how it’s being seen as that!

“If you look back to FIFA Street in 2012 we had a survival mode in that – a little bit different, but a similar kind of concept.

“It is something we’ve thought of bringing to the main game for a while. People are generally loving it.”

We can’t wait to get out hands on this!
