Cristiano Ronaldo has signed for Juventus for an eye-watering €100 million.
While we’ve already discussed the implications this will have on the FIFA 19 cover – the move will also have significant effects on both Ultimate Team and Career Mode – starting almost immediately.
Firstly in FIFA 18, EA will introduce a Juventus Ronaldo card – as we’ve seen for other Summer Window transferred players.
This means Serie A fans will be able to plonk Ronaldo in their teams without any real chemistry concerns.
The move means the Portuguese will no longer be able to link up with premium Meta players such as Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
Instead, you’ll now have to find forwards in Serie A or ensure they’re Portuguese to get full chem.
As Futhead explains, this could have serious implications for the FIFA 19 market.
Strong links with Paulo Dybala among other stars could lead to considerably high prices for top Serie A players across the board – especially Juve ones.
This raises some concerns as Serie A has always been seen as a ‘bugdet’ league with Ultimate Team players – a handy way to pick up top players for cheaper than you’d expect.
Futhead also speculate that Messi and Suarez (among other top forwards in La Liga Santander) may see a dip in price given their lack of chem with Ronaldo.
Finally, we can also expect Ronaldo to continue to attract special and dynamic items – including new Ones To Watch cards.
Away from Ultimate Team and there’s implications for Career Mode as well.
Previously, it’s been very hard to attract players such as Messi to other clubs, no matter what the fee.
But given the €100m move, it may cause EA to rethink these sort of transfers, should the value stack up.
Perhaps we’ll see improvements in the implementation of release clauses and some other financial tweak
