FIFA 18: Hats off to EA Sports for these incredible details on World Cup mode

Are you watching closely?

The FIFA 18 World Cup mode landed this week – and it’s packed with new details previously absent from the core game.

Here, with the help of YouTuber DTT we reveal the best of the bunch – some are so subtle we doubt you’ve ever noticed them.

Player faces

EA Sports has updated a number of player faces for the update including Atletico striker Antoine Griezmann and Man City keeper Ederson (above).

What’s really cool about the latter is that they’ve even included his smiley face tattoo behind his ear. Not even PES 2018 featured this.

Incredible stuff.

Improved crowd details

As EA continues to push Frostbite, they’re now able to add far more detail to the crowd.

Character models now display face paint (which is clearly visible) but what’s slightly less obvious are the different hats some of the characters wear.

In the Egypt example (above), some characters sport pharaoh-style hats. Iceland fans, meanwhile, sport Viking hats while Mexico supporters don sombreros.

Mo Salah

Before – Mo, is that you?

Before – Mo, is that you?

Yes – believe it or not, FIFA 18 players had been stuck with this guy (above) for the past few months.

It literally looks nothing like Mo Salah, so fans have been begging EA to update his face for some time.

Thankfully, EA listened and, lo and behold, we now have a Salah that looks the part.

After – that’s much better

EA Sports announced the long-awaited World Cup mode earlier this month – with the expansion going live last night (May 29).

The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia download promises to deliver authentic gameplay, teams and stadiums in the single-biggest add-on since FIFA 14.

EA confirmed the update will be arriving on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. The Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles appear set to miss out on the update.

Despite concerns a number of teams would be missing from the update, EA announced all 32 nations who qualified for the tournament will feature.

As well as a solo mode, which lets you take a team from the group stage to the final in Moscow, you’re also able to create your own Custom Tournament draw.

A revised Ultimate Team mode will let you build your dream World Cup team as well as see the introduction of World Cup Icons.

All 12 stadiums from Russia are included in the update – as well as pitch environments, advertisements, dressings, national team banners and high-resolution crowds.

To ensure the most realistic experience possible, the official World Cup graphic and broadcast package has also been replicated in-game, while Frostbite-driven cinematic scenes keep you immersed long after the final whistle.

Elsewhere, a new chemistry system provides different ways to link your favourite international players.

Instead of clubs and leagues, nationalities and confederations will be key chemistry components to consider when building and organising your squad.

All squads from every qualifying nation will be up-to-date with refreshed ratings, while dynamic World Cup Items will be released to match real-world performance.

Finally, for every Standard or Premium pack you purchase in World Cup Ultimate Team, you will receive equivalent pack value in FUT.

Phew, that’s a lot of content!
