A FIFA 18 market crash is set to happen this week, as EA Sports prepares to unveil the Team of the Season.
Although no date has been confirmed, there are rumours the long-awaited TOTS could arrive in the coming days.
During this period, the Ultimate Team market fluctuates strongly – with some player prices tumbling to alarmingly low rates.
So, why does it happen?
Every TOTS (La Liga, Premier League, Serie A etc.) brings with it many new, boosted Ultimate Team cards.
At the same time, the demand for normal gold players falls because many gamers want to add TOTS cards to their squads.
Increased supply and falling demand combine to lead to a drastic price loss affecting hundreds of player cards in the market.
So, what players should I sell?
Not all players are worth selling.
Gold players who cost around 1000 coins will not lose too much value, so don’t worry too much about those.
High-rated players who are rarely played but are in line for a TOTS card, such as Toni Kroos, should remain relatively stable too.
Gold-rated cards with scores in the mid 80s but rarely played are particularly unstable – so keep an eye on these.
The biggest losers are the popular high-rated players in the lower 80s range – such as Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly or Anthony Martial.
So how much value can players expect to lose?
Let’s take last year’s Cristiano Ronaldo as an example – using a smart chart from FIFAAH’s brilliant guide.
By the end of the TOTS, the Portuguese lost nearly half his market value.
Here are some other players who plummeted in value – to give you an idea who to keep an eye on this year.
Gareth Bale went for just a fraction of his mid-April price after TOTS.
While Andres Iniesta – despite being amazing in real life, saw his value slashed to just 17,000 coins.
Keep an eye on the market very closely over the next couple of days.
