Grand Theft Auto 6 may well feature the biggest map in the series, according to a former Rockstar executive.
Ex Rockstar President Leslie Benzies revealed the team would ‘like to have one big world’ containing all the cities in the series – with the player being able to fly between them.
In theory, this would allow players to fly from San Andreas to Vice City – which, if pulled off, would almost certainly see some characters from the other games make a return.
“Of course at some point we would like to have one big world containing all our cities and let the player fly between them and revisit their favourite areas,” said Benzies.
“In that context, re-imaging Vice City would be very interesting.”
When it comes to the story, Benzies revealed it’s still very much up in the air – although there are rumours of a female lead character in the next game.
“We don’t know what GTA 6 will be, but we’ve got some ideas” he said in an interview with Develop.
“It comes from the idea first. Where it is going to be set is the first question.
“Then that defines the missions; you’re doing different things in LA than in New York or Miami. The map and story get worked up together, and the story is a basic flow of how it works out so you can layer the mission in.”
GTA 5 sold over 85 million copies since its release in 2013 – and we’re sure Rockstar will want the next game will sell even more.
The company recently posted job listings looking for games testers – which is a sign that GTA 6 development could be ramping up.
So, when’s it coming out?
Rockstar hasn’t even announced GTA 6 – so we’d expect a release date of around 2020.
Some say it could be even later than that. Analyst Michael Pachter predicts the sixth instalment may come as late as 2022.
That’s some time away yet. The good news is that Red Dead Redemption 2 is nearly here – and will likely keep gamers (and Rockstar) occupied for a good chunk of time – despite it bing delayed until October 26.
