FIFA 18: Gamers are begging EA Sports to scrap the latest patch

Many believe the game was better before

FIFA 18 gamers are pleading to EA Sports for the developer to revert it back to its pre-patch status.

The game, which received its first patch last week, has taken a hammering from the community who believe it’s made things worse, not better.

EA’s latest patch sought to address minor gameplay issues and bugs – but fans say it’s caused the game to mimic FIFA 17 – especially with regards to defending.

Reddit user daniksn wrote on the forum: “I’m fairly certain that the overwhelming general consensus here on reddit is that we prefer the game pre-patch.

“I saw a poll on the topic here on /r/fifa where almost 80% of the votes was on the ”prefer pre-patch” option. I’ve also seen countless of threads on the issue, that do get a lot of support.”

“I feel like we all agree that the game had some issues before the patch, no doubt. Keepers were a bit iffy, the radar was no good and longshots might’ve been a bit overpowered. But other than that, I feel like we can agree that it was a step in the right direction after FIFA 17.

“The skillgap was increased, you actually (mostly) won versus players that you were better than, and lost versus players that you are worse than.

“A regular Joe couldn’t have close games versus pros anymore, as it should be.”

He continued: “I feel like, and it seems that this is pretty agreed upon, that the increased skillgap came from the ”revamp’ in defending.

“It was unforgivable, if you made a reckless tackle and missed, you were screwed. And you actually had to tackle manually, the AI didn’t do it for you. It was harder, unforgivable and… wonderful.”

Then the patch came along, which claimed to address the following issues:

  • Tuned goalkeeper reactions in certain situations.
  • Tuned down the difficulty for Amateur and Semi-Pro difficulties.
  • Reduced shot accuracy and slightly increased goalkeeper reaction times in certain in-game situations.

Gamers claim these aren’t the only things that have changed.

As daniksn explains: “What about the defending changes? This was absolutely the biggest change after the patch.

“We went from having to defend manually by planning your defence and having to charge up tackles in the right situations.

“But after the patch we’re back to FIFA 17 defending (pretty much).

“Also, what about the obvious change of pace in the gameplay? It just feels notably slower. Also, what about the increase in players blocking shots, they are actually better than goalkeepers now.”
