FIFA fans round the world have been rejoicing over ‘footage’ that appears to show FIFA Street may be making a comeback on FIFA 18.
That’s if this ‘leaked’ video of the game is anything to go by – but we need to clarify a few things first.
The popular game mode was spotted by eagle-eyed fans online in a video from Gamescom in Germany, which seems to show a new version of the popular game mode might be making a long-awaited re-appearance in the latest edition.
Check out the footage below.
The video, which was shared on Twitter, shows a couple of gamers playing the ‘new’ mode, apparently on a newer build of FIFA 18.
However, we must stress a couple of caveats at this point.
When we spoke to EA Sports back in May, the producers told Dream Team that the mode will not be featuring in the game, mainly due to the mechanics of it.
Creative director Mat Prior said: “It’s something we’re aware of, and we know people ask us about it, but we’ll see in the future.”
The main reasons why it’s not as easy as putting a new game mode in like FIFA Street is down to the fact that you would have to reduce the pitch size, add in walls/barriers, and essentially change the whole of normal football (rules, teams etc.) to fit in with a different mode.
Prior added at the time: “To do it properly is not a light undertaking. It’s not just a case of shrinking the pitch and bringing in boards because of the way the AI works.”
Remember, they told us “we’ll see in the future.”
It wasn’t a definitive answer, and if it turns out Street does make a comeback, we’ll be first in the queue.
