It’s hard enough to win the league in Career Mode.
So you think that putting one defender at the back would make things a whole lot more tough, right?
Well, according to a FIFA 17 experiment from Rich Leigh, that may not be in the case. He created a ‘one at the back’ formation for Manchester United – then simmed the season.
Poor Eric Bailly was tasked with defending the line on his own – while everyone else was upfront.
So, how did they do?
It’s a dream start for United as they win the Community Shield – beating Leicester 3-1 with their ‘nine men at the top’ formation.
And it doesn’t stop there.
United go on to beat Bournemouth 2-1, hammer Southampton 4-1 and destroy Hull City 3-0.
Wins against Manchester City, Chelsea and Watford follow, too.
How about Europe?
The formation leads to a 4-0 win over Arouca before drawing with Stomsgod 2-2.
Fast forward a few matches, and United are still going strong – hammering nearly every team they come up against.
Sadly, they get knocked out by PSG in Europe, though, who went on to win the Europa League trophy.
Against all odds, the formation paid off – and at the end of the season, United sit at the top of the table with 83 points.
They also won the FA Cup – beating West Ham in the final. And let’s not forget about the Community Shield, either.
Jose Mourinho, you better give this formation a try.
