And if this forced metaphor about wine is working – and it probably isn’t – then there’s few finer than Edouard Mendy (£4.0m).

The Chelsea goalkeeper enjoyed an outstanding debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.

Mendy registered 25 clean sheets in 44 appearances in all competitions – that’s a stunning record 57% of shut outs.

Those clean sheets translated to BIG points for Dream Team bosses with the 29-year-old raking in 159 points.

The Chelsea No.1 outscored Brazilians Ederson (£4.0m) and Alisson (£4.0m).

Yet he finds himself as only the third-most popular stopper heading into the 2021/22 with an ownership of 12.5%.

One reason could be being overlooked is Chelsea’s opening fixtures.

The Blues have Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Man City in their opening six games of the season.

Manager Thomas Tuchel also made the questionable decision to rest Mendy in three top-flight matches last year – opting instead to give Kepa Arrizabalaga (£1.0m) a chance between the sticks.

However, those rests arrived ahead of important Champions League games and are unlikely to affect his ownership much for the majority of the campaign.

Games against the so-called ‘big six’ could also pose more of a threat on paper than in reality.

Mendy kept clean sheets against Man United (x2), Spurs (x2) and Liverpool last year and is more than capable of doing the same in Tuchel’s defensively-solid set up.
