Why are so few Dream Team gaffers picking Timothy Castagne?

More and more of you are signing up for Dream Team ahead of the 2021/22 season.

And the Stats Centre paints a picture of which players are fancied and which individuals are being overlooked.

At present, Timothy Castagne (£3.0m) falls into the second category.

The Belgian currently features in just 2.4% of teams created, making him less popular than Declan Rice (£2.5m) – a player who mustered just 64 points last season.

Leicester have a relatively favourable opening to the new Premier League campaign in the form of Wolves, West Ham and Norwich before the end of August.

Under Brendan Rodgers, the general pattern of the Foxes season sees them start strong before falling away in the final third – they spent more time in the top four than any other club in the Premier League last term but ended up finishing 5th.

Castagne, in particular, started the season in top form with a goal, two assists and a Star Man award in his first three games for his new club.

Having spent three years at Atalanta, the 28-year-old had sharpened his attacking might and provided a constant threat down the flank, whether playing as a left-back or right-back.

Towards the end of last season, Rodgers deployed Castagne as a wing-back in an attempt to squeeze every drop of attacking threat out of him, with relative success.

Castagne was restricted to 27 leagues appearances in 2020/21 due to injury troubles and his Euro 2020 campaign was disrupted after he suffered facial fractures.

And perhaps that’s why Dream Team bosses have been hesitant to back him but rest assured, he is expected to be fully fit come the start of the new season.

In summary, Castagne is an attacking defender for a team who have spent more time in the top four than any other team in recent times, and has favourable fixtures in the first month of the new campaign.

2.4% ownership? That seems rather low at this stage…
