The eighth-best forward in Dream Team has an ownership of just 0.9%

A few players will have desperately kept their heads down as Frank Lampard packed his trinkets into a box on Monday.

Timo Werner (£3.9m), Kai Havertz (£3.4m) and Hakim Ziyech (£3.1m) will have shyly murmured their platitudes while googling ‘Thomas Tuchel training‘ but Tammy Abraham’s (£3.3m) efforts in recent months would have allowed him to look the departed gaffer squarely in the eyes.

Much like Olivier Giroud (£3.8m), the 23-year-old has risen to the challenge of fighting for a spot in the starting line-up at Stamford Bridge this campaign.

A hat-trick against Luton in Lampard’s farewell game took Abraham to 11 goals in all competitions for the season.

He’s currently Chelsea’s top-scorer in 2020/21 despite starting just 14 games.

A 28-point haul in Game Week 18 took Abraham to 117 for the season, a tally bettered by only seven forwards at this stage.

The Blues’ No9 is now outperforming the likes of Raheem Sterling (£6.4m) and Patrick Bamford (£3.3m).

And this is notable because Abraham has an ownership of just 0.9%, meaning hardly any Dream Team gaffers have benefited from his surprisingly healthy returns.

It’s understandable of course, given how often he is named on the bench — most bosses want their forwards to be guaranteed starters.

Three goals in his last outing won’t have hurt Abraham’s case when the new head coach considers his centre-forward options but you suspect the pressure will be on to get a tune out Werner sooner rather than later.

That’s why it’s hard to recommend using a transfer to bring in Abraham but any player with an ownership of sub-1% in the top ten of their position is worth highlighting.
