It looks like Bruno Fernandes is finally on his way to Man United.
There’s still a few things that need to be ironed out before the deal is done this month, including an agreement between United and Sporting on the fee, but the transfer is expected to go through soon enough.
And it’s about time too, with the Red Devils seriously under-stocked in their midfield at the moment.
The Portugal international will provide more than just an extra body for United’s squad, though.
The general consensus is that the exciting playmaker will add something a little different to the midfielders Ole Gunnar Solskjaer currently has in his side and will combine flair with his brilliant work-rate and eye for goal.
Mostly, he’ll provide some much-needed creativity, having notched seven assists so far this season to go along with his 55 chances created.
He loves scoring goals, too, especially from long-range; famously netting this absolute banger in the Europa League last season.
What could Bruno Fernandes bring to your fantasy football team?
It goes without saying that the standards in the Portuguese Primeira Liga are not at the same level as the Premier League, so Fernandes will certainly have some adapting to do when he arrives.
But the early signs suggest he’ll be thrown straight into the starting line-up and will need to get up to speed reasonably quickly, such are United’s problems in midfield.
Expect Bruno to be a regular starter then, which should be your first line of consideration when picking a player for fantasy football.
With Pogba out of action with his ankle knock and McTominay on the sidelines for at least a month with a knee ligament problem, Solskjaer is down to just Nemanja Matic and Fred in the middle, with Andreas Pereira in the advanced role.
None of whom have been particularly good when it comes to fantasy football this term, with Daniel James current United’s best midfielder on Dream Team with a measly 58 points.
With his creativity and attacking nous, Bruno will be well placed to provide for United’s fairly capable front-three.
Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial are all in good form at the moment, and more than capable of scoring from the chances he’ll create.
Looking through some of his stats provided by our friends over at WhoScored.com, Bruno has amassed a rating of 7.89 in the league this season, with eight goals, seven assists and four Star Man awards, while his record in the Europa League is even better, with five goals and three assists in five appearances.
To put that into context, his current rating is better than any other United player in the Premier League this term, with Rashford (7.34) and Martial (7.25) the best of the lot, while Pogba (7.09) is their top-rated midfielder.
Of course, nothing’s been confirmed yet – and won’t be until he signs on the dotted line – but we’ve earmarked the Portuguese midfielder’s Dream Team price to be around £3m, which was the price of similar players like Felipe Anderson, Lucas Moura, and James Maddison at the start of the season.
