Does picking one of the worst players on Dream Team actually make sense?

Every so often you hear something that makes you question everything you believe in.

We’re not talking about Ryan Fraser having more Premier League assists than Luka Modric. This is far more jaw dropping.

The current overall leader on Dream Team, a certain Andrew Thornhill, has Fulham defender Denis Odoi in his team – statistically the second worst player on the game.

Among a team littered with superstars such as Eden Hazard, Mo Salah and Harry Kane, marshalling the defence is none other than the calamitous defender from Craven Cottage.

Odoi has endured a season to forget with Fulham and has been at fault for a number of the goals (and there’s been plenty of them), that Claudio Ranieri’s side have leaked on their return to the top flight.

The defender’s points tally has suffered because of his poor performances and he’s currently sitting on -10 points, the second worst total of any player on Dream Team.

Only Cardiff’s Greg Cunningham sits below Odoi in the rankings, with the former boasting a shocking return of negative 11 points for his efforts this season.

And so, with the leading Dream Team manager having Odoi in his team full of superstars, there’s just one question to ask.

Why?

Odoi started the season with a generous price tag of £1.5m on Dream Team but has seen that plummet during his difficult campaign.

The Fulham man can now be snapped up for a measly fee of £0.5m, making him the joint-cheapest player on the game and an irresistible option for some, apparently.

With pocket money all that’s required to get him into your team, has one eagle-eyed manager stumbled across the greatest formula for Dream Team success?

Transferring in Odoi frees up funds that can be reinvested elsewhere, allowing you to pack the rest of your team with expensive superstar talent.

Hazard, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane, Salah, Kane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are all now affordable options for the shrewd manager who has managed to squeeze those big hitters into his XI.

If you’re working on a tight budget and racking your brains over the best way to use your January transfers, then look no further than Odoi.

His defensive displays have been questionable to say the least

In Game Week 18, Odoi even pulled off a minor miracle by earning himself seven points in Fulham’s win over Huddersfield.

If you needed further convincing that there is method to the madness…
