World Cup fantasy football: One Golden Boot contender is being naively overlooked

  • Diego Costa could be the gem to unearth in the second week of World Cup fantasy football
  • The Spain striker scored twice against Portugal and has Iran and Morocco in his next two games

If you’re a centre-back, who’s the last striker you want to face when he’s in the mood?

Diego Costa, of course.

Costa was in the mood against Portugal

The wily Spanish b****** is one of the most enigmatic players on the planet, but when he’s purring there are few more destructive.

And last Friday in that pulsating 3-3 draw with Portugal we saw Costa at his growling, bullying best.

The first of his two goals was breathtaking centre-forward’s play; out-muscling Pepe, turning Jose Fonte in both directions before burying a shot unerringly past Rui Patricio.

Bullied

Yet Costa isn’t feeling the love on Dream Team World Cup.

Despite that virtuoso two-goal display against Portugal he’s been picked by just 6.3% of people so far.

Only four strikers have a higher points total than Costa’s 13 so far – and Russia’s Artem Dzyuba has played twice.

Don’t make him angry

More people are picking the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Luis Suarez and Timo Werner despite neither of them finding the net in Russia yet.

Costa also has some extremely favourable games on the horizon, with Spain playing Iran on Wednesday night and then Morocco in their final group game.

If the Atletico striker can make mincemeat of the Portuguese defence, just imagine what he could to the Iranians and Moroccans?

Be very, very afraid.
