There’s no shame in getting excited for this season’s fantasy football game given the fact the Premier League fixture lists have already been announced.
And the first Game Week of the season is always one of the most vital in terms of indicating which players to pick for the rest of the campaign.
Dream Team 2017/18
The tactics and approaches clubs deploy after a long pre-season of preparation usually underlines which players will be their main men for the season ahead.
Taking last season’s opening day into consideration, Zlatan Ibrahimovic starred on his Premier League debut at Bournemouth to give a taster of his fantasy football dominance.
Ibrahimovic racked up 290 points on Dream Team in total and would have been destined for more had his season not have been prematurely ended by a horrible knee injury.
Elsewhere Philippe Coutinho registered 18 points in Liverpool’s 4-3 win at Arsenal while the Reds also first trialled what would prove to be their regular attacking trio of Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
That told a lot of Dream Team managers that Daniel Sturridge – previously a popular pick – might not see as much game time as initially anticipated, while Reds defenders were also dropped hastily.
As for the more niche, joker-in-the-pack type choices Robert Snodgrass scored and earned a Star Man award in Hull’s 2-1 win over then champions Leicester as he proved a surprise high points scorer.
The same can be said for Etienne Capoue, who scored and took home the Star Man award before he went on a run of four goals in Watford’s first six games of the season.
While it might seem like the season is still in it’s infancy, it’s crucial to hit the ground running in the opening Game Week and take on all the key learnings.
When can I sign up?
You can start getting your teams in as early as July 7 2017 – some five weeks before the Premier League season gets underway.
That gives you an awfully long time to monitor the transfer market and choose your team accordingly, with Bernardo Silva the first major coup of the summer after his £43m move to Manchester City.
