Fantasy football: Who makes the Premier League team of the season on points scored?

With the football season now done and dusted, we look at the players who have made our fantasy football team of the season.

With the domestic season now done and dusted in England we’ve got a rather large football and, of course, fantasy football-shaped hole in our lives.

With no major European tournament to sink our teeth into this summer, we’ve entered a rather bizarre period of reflection.

So, without further ado, we’ve looked at the best performing players on Dream Team this season to create the best Premier League XI of the campaign on points scored.

And it looks a bit like this…

Hugo Lloris (135 points) was by far and away the highest scoring goalkeeper on the game this season, with Tottenham keeping a massive 17 clean sheets and conceding just 24 goals in 36 Premier League games so far.

DEFENCE

There’s a distinct Chelsea feel about the defensive line, with half of the back four key members of Antonio Conte’s title-winning machine.

Cesar Azpilicueta (188) and Gary Cahill (181) were both regular fixtures after the switch to 3-4-3 in October, with the latter also excellent at the other end too.

Jan Vertonghen (172), who has been nominated for Premier League Player of the Season, is Spurs’ sole representative while Nicolas Otamendi (174) proved he’s a WhoScored algorithm favourite again by making up the defensive line.

MIDFIELD

A midfield three to send shivers down the spine of any opposing side also has a nice balance to it.

Paul Pogba (236) has been criticised by some for his displays in his first season back in England but WhoScored’s system has clearly recognised just how good he’s actually been.

Christian Eriksen (251) has been nothing short of sensational in 2017 while Eden Hazard (252) had an almost immediate return to the form we all know he’s capable of after a torrid season last term.

ATTACK

Alexis Sanchez (340) has 30 goals and 13 assists in all competitions, became the first player to get double figures for both goals and assists in the Premier League and finished the season as Dream Team’s top points scorer by some distance.

He’s joined by Harry Kane (305), who finished the season with back-to-back hat-tricks to win the Golden Boot, and Sergio Aguero (307) who racked up 69 points in his first five games of the campaign alone.

Can’t wait for next season? Here’s everything you need to know about the Dream Team game – which will be back and better than ever in 2017/18 – and keep up to date with our fantasy football live blog for all the latest updates.
