Fantasy league tips: Who should I pick this season?

Believe it or not the return of the Premier League and fantasy football is much sooner than you might have expected.

The biggest clubs in the land are busy away working on deals ahead of the new season, with some mouthwatering signings already through the door.

And that means Dream Team’s fantasy football game is set to be bigger and better than ever.

So without further ado, here’s the players that should tickle your consideration for the new season.

GOALKEEPER

The obvious choice is Spurs man Hugo Lloris (£4.5m), who conceded just 24 goals last season, with only nine of those coming at White Hart Lane.

However, no one knows how Spurs’ home form will be effected by their temporary move to Wembley this season (remember their Champions League run?) so be mindful of that fantasy managers.

If you want guaranteed consistency, then look no further than Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois (4.5m), who could have an even better defence in front of him this season after the arrival of Antonio Rudiger from Roma.

But if you’re looking for a bargain option, then how about Burnley’s Tom Heaton (£2.5m)? The England shot-stopper made 141 saves last season – the most of anyone in the top-flight – keeping 10 clean sheets in the process.

DEFENCE

If you fancy reliability, look no further than Cesar Azpilicueta (£5m). ‘Dave’ was last season’s finest defensive points scorer and, with Chelsea returning to the Champions League this season, the Spaniard will have more opportunities to pick up points.

Keep one eye on Virgil van Dijk (£5m) during the off-season, with the flying Dutchman potentially move to top four side.

Pacy full-back Danny Rose (£4.5m) will hopefully be fit and ready to get forward down Spurs’ left flank and could bring in plenty of clean sheets a few tasty assists.

MIDFIELD

While N’Golo Kante and Victor Wanyama are the midfield warriors many managers can only dream of, they’re not exactly prolific points scorers for Dream Team.

Which brings us to midfield showman Christian Eriksen (£6.5m), who topped our midfield points ranking last season and we don’t see why he wouldn’t be a consistent performer this term.

Or if you want a goal-scorer, then Sadio Mane (£6m) could be a decent pick. The winger (when he’s fit) can be a match-winner for Liverpool, and could be a vital for their season in the Champions League.

Fancy an outsider? Expect Everton youngster Tom Davies (£2m) to be involved even more for the Toffees this season, with his pace and movement likely to only get better during their Premier League and Europa League runs.

ATTACK

Here’s the real bread and butter of every Dream Team line-up; the guys up front.

These are the ones who will score your goals – so who better to start with than Harry Kane (£8m)?

The big Spurs man won the Premier League Golden Boot award for a second consecutive season and is the most expensive player on the Dream Team game this season.

The other obvious name is Alexis Sanchez (£7.5m), who topped the Dream Team points table with a cool 340 points. The Arsenal man gives you goals and assists, with 30 goals and 13 assists in all competitions last season.

That’s if he stays with the Gunners, mind.

If it’s an underdog you like, then why not go for Josh King (£4m)?

The Bournemouth man bagged an impressive 16 goals last season, and might find himself moving to a bigger club this season, with Spurs a possible destination.

When can I sign up?

You can start getting your teams in as early as July 7 2017 – some five weeks before the Premier League season gets underway.

That gives you an awfully long time to monitor the transfer market and choose your team accordingly, with Bernardo Silva the first major coup of the summer after his £43m move to Manchester City.
