That’s one way of getting the monkey off your back.
Arsenal hadn’t won at Stoke for six years, but blew that unwanted record away with an emphatic win that kept their top-four hopes very much alive.
Two goals from Olivier Giroud and one each from Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez helped the Gunners to a 4-1 win in the Potteries that reduced the gap to fourth-placed Liverpool to just a single point.
Stoke in truth had the flip-flops, deck chairs and pina coladas out in force at the bet365 Stadium, allowing their visitors to almost toy with them at times.
Peter Crouch briefly halved the deficit – and in controversial fashion – when he appeared to handle the ball into the net.
Despite the setback Arsenal rallied and in the end won convincingly, inspired by a masterclass from talisman Sanchez.
Over to you, Liverpool…
