Napoli give Man City taste of their own medicine with classy opening goal

The Italian side went ahead in Naples thanks to Lorenzo Insigne's brilliant strike

Manchester City haven’t been on the wrong end of the scoreline very often this season.

But in Naples they were mastered at their own game by Napoli’s bristling attacking play.

City have been sweeping opponents aside with ease in recent weeks, quickly becoming the highest scoring team in Europe.

But Napoli aren’t far behind after an equally dominant start to their league campaign in Serie A.

Maurizio Sarri is the godfather of sexy football

And after a 2-1 defeat in Manchester a fortnight ago, the Italian league leaders set about getting revenge in beautiful fashion.

Their front three of Dries Mertens, Jose Callejon and Lorenzo Insigne is one of the most formidable trios in world football and they showed why after 21 minutes.

Insigne, as he likes to, dropped deep before drifting inside.

Insigne drives from deep

The Italian found focal point Mertens in space in front of the City back four.

And plays it into Mertens’ feet

He then fed his team-mate almost instantly with a sumptuous flick of the outside of his boot which flummoxed the City defenders.

Mertens instantly finds Insigne again

Insigne gathered his composure and curled past Ederson unerringly into the far corner.

Who confidently curls past Ederson

Pure. Footballing. Porn.

Pep would have been proud

City would get an equaliser against the run of play before half time through Nicolas Otamendi to set up a thrilling second half.

Pep Guardiola claimed Napoli were the best side he’d ever faced after the 2-1 win two weeks ago, which sounded a little far-fetched.

But after the opening 45 minutes in Naples you can see his point.
