But the Catalan followers may simply have been excited to be on TV.

Pique got a ridiculous red card on Wednesday night for a blatant second yellow after blatantly trying to score with his hand in Barca’s 3-1 Champions League home win over Olympakos.

The Spain ace had surged up the pitch against the Greek giants – with his side already enjoying a comfortable 1-0 lead at home – and tried to steal a sneaky goal.

But the centre-back was caught out by the officials and rightly given his second caution and sent for an early bath.

The former Manchester United man insisted he prodded the ball home with his hip but the referee was right to end his night.

The Barca defender was walking a tightrope from the 11th minute when he was booked for a bad foul.

And he gave referee William Collum no choice but to dismiss himself three minutes before half-time.

Barca started the night top of Group D – with two wins from two – and were cruising through an early  own goal.

And that made Pique’s brainless bid for an illegal goal seem even more strange as he now prepares to sit out their next clash in Greece.
