Non-league crooks turn into cooks as they grill burgers before tucking into football club’s booze

As if stealing 12 bottles of spirits wasn’t enough.

Before escaping, these burglars thought they would rustle up some grub in the club house of non-league side Colne FC.

The thieves chose to grill some burgers from frozen before tucking into some defrosted teacakes.

But to show their gratitude they left a thank-you note scribbled on the wall, just to rub it in that little bit more.

Colne’s XLCR Stadium was the target for these foolish thieves as they broke into the ground between 7pm on Saturday and 10am on Sunday.

The biggest blow to the Northwest Counties Premier side is the loss of the alcohol but the fact they helped themselves to a bite to eat is just taking the p***.

It’s cheeky, they are rubbing our noses in it. Whether they are dumb enough to write their real name, you can’t tell. They put the kettle on and made themselves a brew and even made themselves burgers.

Janette Harries, Colne club treasurer

This is the third break-in Colne have had within a year and their reserve goalkeeper Stuart Cross began an online fundraising campaign with a target of £1,000 to cover the damage, which they have already met.

The club are now determined to find the culprits!
