For the first time since taking over as manager, Claudio Ranieri has said something Leicester fans won’t want to here.
The Italian believes Leicester’s achievement in winning the title pales in comparison to what Nottingham Forest did under Brian Clough.
“Nottingham Forest was a bigger success story than ours, because they came from the second division, won the league title then two European titles in succession,” Ranieri says.
Clough’s side won promotion in 1977 before and won the First Division title a year later before adding back to back European Cups in 1979 and 1980.
Many had argued that with the money in football today, Leicester’s achievement in winning the title outstripped anything Forest did.
But watch out Cloughy, Ranieri intends to match you eventually.
“I hope we get to their level in a few years.”
Leicester Champions League winners 2017 and 2018? We like the sound of that.
