Sam Allardyce and Pep Guardiola have very different philosophies and outlooks when it comes to football.
But one thing they do agree on is that Steven N’Zonzi is a quality player.
Big Sam managed the 28-year-old midfielder when the pair were at Blackburn together and has repeatedly tried to sign him while in charge of other clubs.
He even wanted to call N’Zonzi up for England before his plan was thwarted by the fact the Sevilla man had played for France U21s.
Sevilla are currently third in La Liga with only the mighty Real Madrid and Barcelona ahead of them and N’Zonzi’s performances have been hugely influential in their success.
And Man City have taken notice.
With the unfortunate Ilkay Gundogan out for the forseeable future and the long term futures of Yaya Toure and Fernando in doubt, Guardiola is said to be keen on securing the services of N’Zonzi as soon as possible.
Sevilla estimate their midfield general to be worth around £25million but there are some other factors to consider.
Samir Nasri is currently on loan at the La Liga club and has rediscovered his best form.
Sevilla may also be keen on resigning Jesus Navas, who played 388 games for them from over ten years before joining City in 2013.
The two clubs may be able to therefore arrange some sort of swap deal involving Nasri, Navas or both in exchange for N’Zonzi.
Sometimes things just fall into place.
