Steven Gerrard is undoubtedly one of the greatest midfielders in Premier League history.
But it turns out he’s as much a class act off the pitch as he is on it.
The former Liverpool captain, who retired from playing football last November, ensured one young Reds fan was given a heartwarming Christmas surprise when he unexpectedly turned up on her doorstep in Huyton.
11-year-old Charlie has a rare form of brain cancer and her family are currently trying to raise £37,000 to allow for treatment in Germany which is unavailable in the UK.
After an incredibly difficult year, Gerrard gave the brave youngster something to smile about as he wowed Charlie on her doorstep before heading inside for a big hug.
The 36-year-old, who’s been linked with a coaching role at Liverpool in recent weeks, took time out of his schedule to give a huge boost to Charlie and her family this Christmas.
Charlie already had the pleasure of meeting Jurgen Klopp and other members of the Liverpool squad, but it had been her dream to come face-to-face with the Merseyside hero.
