Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani aren’t exactly best mates in the same way Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole were back in the day, but the Uruguayan duo love playing alongside each other all the same.
They’ve been doing it for long enough, anyway.
Born in the same town of Salto in 1987 – separated by less than a month, in fact – the pair have played at three World Cups together for Uruguay and even reached the semi-final as part of a strike-trio with Diego Forlan back in 2010.
So as you’d imagine, the link-up play between the two is arguably one of the best at the World Cup this summer.

For the first time in history, both forwards scored in the same game in Uruguay’s 3-0 defeat of Russia last time out, giving them each the right momentum for their round of 16 clash with Portugal this evening.
And it took less than 10 minutes for them to show us all how ruthless they are together.
On the 6th minute, Cavani, out of position on the right-flank, launched a cross-field pass to Suarez on the left.
Suarez then cut inside his marker and whipped a lovely cross towards the far-post for the on-rushing Cavani, who smashed home the cross with his head.
Well, actually, it looked like he used his face to score the goal, but they all count.

It was a simply wonderful bit of link-up play between the two, and really showed just how important they are to Uruguay and their chances at this tournament.
