Some would say it’s because Argentina’s and Portugal’s national teams are not to the same standard as Barcelona and Real Madrid.

So, could Messi and Ronaldo win the trophy with their superior club sides?

YouTuber Rich Leigh decided to find out and used FIFA’s Career Mode.

Let’s see how they get on.

The draw was kind to Madrid, with Los Blancos sharing the group with Cameroon, Al Hilal (Representing Saudi Arabia) and the Netherlands.

Barca meanwhile faced matches against Spain, South Africa and Chile – all winnable games.

It was a strong start for Real Madrid as they topped the group – winning three out of three.

is the World Cup finally in Ronaldo’s reach?

Sadly, it was woeful from Barcelona – who came bottom of their group, losing two matches and drawing one. Spain and South Africa made it through.

In the last 16, Real managed to beat Japan (Labelled as Borussia Dortmund) 1-0.

They went on to face Argentina in the quarter finals but were sadly knocked out, losing 1-0.

But all hope is not lost.

Ronaldo, who’s been playing for Portugal, too, manages to get to the final with his national team – and beat Germany 1-0.

So, while Barca and Real Madrid wouldn’t cut it at the World Cup, Ronaldo’s Portugal still has every chance of getting that elusive trophy.
