RB Leipzig troll Liverpool after Reds fail to get Naby Keita in January transfer window

The Guinea midfielder will make a move to Anfield but much to the Bundesliga club's delight - that wont be until next season.

RB LEIPZIP appear to be thrilled at keeping Naby Keita and wasted no time getting in a dig at Liverpool.

The Guinea midfielder will be on his way to Merseyside in the summer for £48million after failed attempts to move in the winter transfer window.

The Bundesliga outfit tweeted at 1.01am – one minute after any deals had to be finalised – to troll Liverpool for not getting an earlier deal pushed through.

The German outfit posted a gif of Keita dancing with the caption: “It’s February 1st!”

For now, Keita remains very much a Leipzig player and the Anfield club will have to wait a little longer to get their man.

An agreement was made but Keita won’t link up with his team until next season.

A club statement made mid-January said: “Naby Keita will remain an RB Leipzig player until 30th June 2018.”

The club managed to hold tough despite Keita wanting an earlier switch and Liverpool willing to put up an extra £13m to make that happen.

Jurgen Klopp had money to spend after Philippe Coutinho’s £142m move to Barcelona and was expected to bolster his midfield reinforcements.

But as the transfer window edged nearer to its close, the German boss insisted he wouldn’t be replacing Coutinho – further quashing the rumours.

Klopp said: “Philippe Coutinho is no to be replaced in this transfer window. We have to stop thinking about it.”
