THERE’S a real belief amongst Arsenal fans that Laurent Koscielny is the best defender in the Premier League.
After all, the Gunners tend to perform far better with the Frenchman in the side, while they’re very leaky without him.
Now finally the stats may just prove that Koscielny is the top centre-back in the Prem – as he tops the charts when it comes to interceptions, according to data from EA Sports.

No player in the top flight has read the play better than Arsene Wenger’s first choice defender.
Koscielny has 87 interceptions this season, better than even the best reader of the game – N’Golo Kante.
In fact, the Chelsea man is only good enough for fifth in the standings with 79.
Hull’s Curtis Davies comes in a close-second on 86, while Manchester United man Ander Herrera takes the last podium spot with 81.
West Ham’s Winston Reid has 80, while Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye comes in sixth on 78 – level with Nacho Monreal and Cheikhou Kouyate.
Southampton man Oriol Romeu has 76 – level with Manchester City’s Nicolas Otamendi to complete the top ten.
But it’s not just this season Koscielny has been exerting his dominance as the best reader of the game.
Over the past four seasons, he has 406 interceptions – 67 more than second-placed Ashley Williams.
Jose Fonte is the only other player to break the 300-barrier, with stars such as Gareth McAuley and Mile Jedinak not far behind.
